Blue Christmas

Tonight, while I was on the road, Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley was playing on the radio. Nobody can quite sing some of those holiday songs like the King.

But I have to tell you, I know a lot of people who are having a blue Christmas this year and it just seems like they can’t quite get past it. All the lights and sounds of Christmas are playing all around and there are lots of people telling you it is the best time of the year, but still we can’t seem to get past looking at the season through that blue looking glass.

I want to tell you, if that is you or someone you love, its okay. Really, it’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up over it and over expectations that the world has for you. This is real life, not a movie and especially now in the holidays, we get blue and let me remind you God still loves you, especially now.

Remember this is why the Christ child was born, to be with us, when we’re blue and when we’re not, through every up and down of life, God in Jesus Christ is with you. But while you’re blue, look to Jesus, He is able to strengthen you through every season. He is holding you in His love; keep your eyes fixed on Him…

and cut yourself some slack, don’t let the craziness get to you. If you like sing Blue Christmas to yourself just once or twice and remind yourself it’s okay. Then have some Christmas cookies on me and relax just a little bit in your savior’s embrace.

Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith— to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.
Romans 16:25-27
