Why It’s Good To Be Here

Lord, it is good to be here!

I love those words of Peter on the mount of Transfiguration, when for a moment the veil separating heaven and earth was lifted and Peter saw Jesus in His glory.

It is good to be here. But there is another place where those words are said, a place we don’t expect. At the cross where we see Jesus not in the glory of heaven but in the glory of His saving love. On the cross we see what love has done for us.

It is good to be here.

It is both of these places that we see every time we gather for worship. No matter what we call it, Lent, midweek, Sunday services, Divine service (all good names) but all really describing the same thing. God’s people gathering around the love of the cross and the light of God’s glory. These places given to us in the preaching and teaching of the Word and the giving of the waters of Holy Baptism, in the receiving of the Body and Blood of Jesus and the Fellowship of the Saints both now and in glory gathered together around the Throne of God

It is good to be here.

When we are in worship we are receiving God’s good gifts of light and love to fill and encourage us for the days ahead that we must face. This light and love comes to us in this place because that is where God has promised to be found in the love of Jesus. This is not something God had to do and we might want it other ways but this is the blessing and gift we have been given and our faith leads us to be where God’s promises are to be found.

Lord, it is good to be here.
