What are you using your freedom for?
In just a few weeks we will be celebrating the freedom we have in this country on the fourth of July. But what is that freedom to be used for? Some may say to do whatever we want when we want it, but that kind of freedom robs other people of their freedom and takes away our freedom when we give it over to a lifestyle that enslaves us.
God’s Word asks the same question. As Christians we have been set free from sin, death and the devil. But what is your freedom to be used for? Is it to be used for whatever we want? No, it can’t be, because all we do then is give up our freedom to do those sinful things we have been set free from that enslave us all over again.
Pastor Paul writes in Galatians 5-
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
The answer is to use your freedom with purpose, to go on the offensive and intentionally do good, be in worship, care for others, grow in your relationship with God.
If we don’t, sin and the devil loves nothing more than those who are just waiting around, twiddling their thumbs. The devil will always put something in our hands to do, but it’s never good for you or for the people in your life.
Be intentional about how you live the life God has given you in Jesus.
