Have you ever had the experience of being really hungry so you pick up whatever you find around you at the store, often times junk food, you eat it, feel good for a bit, then your stomach gets sick and/or you get really hungry again because the junk food simply couldn’t satisfy.
In the old testament reading for this Sunday the prophet Isaiah is speaking these words from God’s heart.
Why do you spend your money on that which is not bread and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me and eat what is good and delight yourselves in rich food. (Isaiah 55)
We try to fill that hungry hole in our stomachs, our hearts and our souls with things that simply do not satisfy. From our behaviors and actions that are sinful and addictive to the junk food of tv, we fill ourselves but it doesn’t makes us full, it doesn’t make us whole.
Only Jesus will fill your hungry heart and the meal he provides for you is free! Come and eat freely from all that God has to offer you in Jesus, be filled with Jesus and your meal never runs out and you will always be satisfied with the bread of life, Jesus Christ.
