Hard Working?

hard working?

This past weekend my wife and I have been working our tails off trying to redo our son’s bedroom. We realized pretty quickly that the carpet squares we were using in his room were starting to get moldy! Gross and bad for anyone. So, we have been pulling up carpet squares repainting and putting new flooring in. It’s been a lot of work.

This work is necessary but a lot of the work we do isn’t.

Sometimes we find ourselves working so hard and, in the end, it didn’t pay off or it doesn’t end up like we expected. Or we find whether because of illness or age we really can’t work anymore, and we wonder what to do with ourselves.

Often, we wonder what am I working so hard for? Do I really have too?

Maybe not. Sometimes we work so hard for things that don’t last or will disappoint, but Jesus says in John 6 that the work of God, the most important work we can do is believe. Believe in Jesus. The kind of work God wants us to do first and foremost is to believe and that work never disappoints us.

It doesn’t matter your age, ability, or health, this is a work we can always do because Jesus did all of the work for us on the cross, so we could believe.

Spend your time this week doing the work of God.

I am a recovering burned out workaholic who forgot I couldn't change the world. From the ashes of that not only have I found a peace from God that I never knew but a focus on what matters, God, family and loving my neighbor as God has loved me. My burning out experiences really drive my writing and how much I want to share all of the good God has worked through the hurt I've experienced. Currently I serve a great little parish in Northern Ohio with my wonderful family and our furry farm of five dogs, four cats and the oddball handful of fish.
