You Can’t Earn This!

You Can't Earn This

This past week my son asked me what Labor Day was all about. It took me a second, barbecues and picnics were the first thing to cross my mind, but then I remembered Labor Day originally started as a protest against unreasonable working hours and no time off for the workers in the factories.

There are a lot of things that we have to work for and try to earn. It’s kind of what we are used to. So much so that we think we have to earn our Heavenly Father’s love as well or earn a place in heaven.

Even Teddy Roosevelt said:

“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty…”

But this is why the love of our Heavenly Father is so amazing and not of this world. We cannot work for it, earn it, or do anything to be worthy of it, but it is worth everything.

Sit in that for a few minutes.

You cannot do anything to make your heavenly father love you because he already has loved you completely before you were even born and no matter what you have done, that love never, ever stops. You cannot earn your Heavenly Father’s love and you cannot do anything to lessen that love.

What a beautiful, humbling reality. Simply being loved by your Heavenly Father and love back in worship, prayer, and praise.

This Labor Day weekend take a break from working and just be loved.
