Love Our Enemies

Show Love to your enemies-3

These past few weeks I’ve found myself caught up in all of the political drama going on in Washington, with the Supreme Court nomination, political drama, and various accusations. If you don’t know about this yet, you will.

What has been bothering me throughout the process is the blatant disregard for any sense of dignity, courtesy, or fairness as group after group have blasted each other with violence, protests, and death threats.

I had the thought, this isn’t how my country should be acting!

But like anything else, our country is a sinful, human institution as well as all of the good it is, and that sinfulness will always rear its ugly head.

I think, that when this much public viciousness abounds, how much more important it is for Christians not only not to participate in the viciousness through our words, conversations, or posts but to be a voice of reason and calmness amidst the craziness.

Because as Christians we represent our Savior first and then our Country. When we speak well of each other, especially those that persecute us, and point others to the goodness of God in Jesus we represent our savior well.

When we represent our Savior well we represent our Country well also.

Matthew 5:43-44 Jesus commands us, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
