I Want To Be Last!

This week’s bible reading is a familiar one to many, Jesus said:

“some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”

There are many ways that we can apply this passage in our lives, let’s try this one.

The world teaches us to seek acknowledgement and praise from those around us. Our own hearts tell us, “wouldn’t it be nice if I was recognized for everything I did.”

To get this recognition we have to stand out from the crowd and be noticed. We have to be first. To be first means we have to push others behind us so we can get some credit. What a mess, of clawing and pushing trying to be first.

As Christians we seek the approval of our Heavenly Father, the amazing thing about that is that in Jesus we already have His approval, completely, without pushing or shoving, without trying to be noticed, even when we are doing wrong, Jesus still loves us. So, without even trying, in our Heavenly Father’s eyes, we are already first and it is our heavenly father’s opinion that matters most.

This week, don’t get caught up in the rat race: in work, church, community, or home, simply know, in Jesus’ eyes, you are loved and you are first to Him.

I am a recovering burned out workaholic who forgot I couldn't change the world. From the ashes of that not only have I found a peace from God that I never knew but a focus on what matters, God, family and loving my neighbor as God has loved me. My burning out experiences really drive my writing and how much I want to share all of the good God has worked through the hurt I've experienced. Currently I serve a great little parish in Northern Ohio with my wonderful family and our furry farm of five dogs, four cats and the oddball handful of fish.
